A Nation Mourns the Loss of a Visionary Leader
The news of Ratan Tata’s demise has deeply saddened the country, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from all walks of life. N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, expressed his deep sorrow, calling Tata “a mentor, a guide, and a dear friend.” In his statement, Chandrasekaran said, “Ratan Tata was more than just a leader. His principles of integrity, excellence, and innovation not only transformed Tata Group but set an example for the entire nation to follow.”
Tributes From PM Modi and Other Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to offer his condolences. He hailed Ratan Tata as a “visionary business leader” and an “extraordinary human being,” praising his profound contributions to Indian industry and society. “Ratan Tata’s leadership extended beyond the corporate boardroom. His humility and compassion left an indelible mark on countless lives, making our society better in numerous ways,” said PM Modi.
Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, also expressed his sadness, stating that Tata’s influence on both business and philanthropy would be remembered for generations. “Ratan Tata was a man of vision, who redefined success in both business and humanitarian work,” he added.
State Funeral and Public Mourning
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ratan Tata would be accorded a state funeral, with the government declaring a day of mourning in honour of the legendary industrialist. His body will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai on Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm, where people will have the opportunity to pay their respects. The final rites will be performed at the Worli crematorium later in the evening.
Ratan Tata’s Final Social Media Post

In a poignant twist, Ratan Tata had shared a message on social media just a few days ago, on October 7, where he thanked everyone for their concern about his health. He reassured his followers that he was in “good spirits,” dismissing rumors of deteriorating health. His words, “Thank you for thinking of me,” now resonate with deeper emotion.
The Architect of Tata Group’s Global Expansion
Ratan Tata’s tenure as chairman of the Tata Group is marked by his visionary approach to global expansion and innovation. After completing his education in architecture from Cornell University, Tata joined his family business in 1962. Over the years, his leadership led to several major accomplishments across industries.
In 1991, when Ratan Tata took over as the chairman of Tata Group, he was tasked with navigating India’s economic liberalization. His early moves included streamlining operations, bringing in younger talent, and preparing the group for international opportunities. One of his most significant contributions was turning Tata into a global brand by acquiring international companies like Tetley Tea in 2000, Corus Steel in 2007, and the iconic Jaguar Land Rover in 2008.
Philanthropy and His Lasting Legacy
Ratan Tata was not just known for his business acumen but also for his tireless dedication to philanthropy. Through Tata Trusts, he spearheaded various initiatives in education, healthcare, and rural development, impacting millions of lives. His focus on making a positive difference in society earned him deep respect both in India and around the world.
His efforts earned him numerous accolades, including India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2008. He was also awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rockefeller Foundation.
A Legacy Beyond the Boardroom
Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, Tata Group launched revolutionary products like the Tata Indica, India’s first indigenous car, and the Nano, a project that aimed to bring affordable transportation to the masses. However, his contributions extend beyond business innovation. Ratan Tata’s integrity, humility, and focus on the welfare of others have inspired generations of entrepreneurs and leaders.
As India bids farewell to one of its most iconic business leaders, Ratan Tata’s legacy will continue to shine, both within the Tata Group and across the global business landscape.
